(Insert Controversial Blog Title Here)

Small but brief rant. I am an avid reader, and I particularly love that LinkedIn has opened its publishing rights to everyone and anyone. While not all professional writers (myself included – I would call myself a “hobbyist” at best), I love reading the perspectives and commentary on issues of the day from people in various industries and geographies around the world. Now – with those pleasantries out of the way, let’s get right to it. This common tactic I am seeing lately of “click baiting” has to stop. The trend these days is to have a very controversial or polarizing post title to grab your attention, only to when actually reading the blog see nothing that even remotely resembles the title and it’s shocking claims – vanilla city. Folks – this is weak and will ultimately hurt all of us who intend to write with the right intentions (see what I did there?) and drive people away from reading these posts in general. I have now had to train myself to not click on these types of posts, because these sensationalist titles are all about views – nothing more. Rant over.
